Reliable jewelery stores in Chiang Mai?

We are interested in of quality pearl, particularly black pearl. Need answer quick because we are gonna be there very soon! Lonely Planet strictly advises tourists not to buy jewelery everywhere in Thailand and in this regard recommends 2 stores in Bangkok, but not in Chiang Mai. Perhaps Chiang Mai is not as popular as Bangkok in this regard?
