How do you get a tick off without leaving the head. ewww!?

Dab the tick with surgigal spirit or something similar - this will parralyse the tick and then you can pull it out with tweezers. Some people recommend burning them with a stub of a cigarette but when my dog had a tick the vet advised against this and showed us the surgical spirit thing.
