Am I the only one who uses iodine on a mouth sore?

Everyone always looks at me like I am crazy when I recommend it. If you look at the main active ingredient in medications sold for canker sores Iodine is the number one ingredient. Why would one pay so much for those things when iodine is like 2 bucks and lasts forever?
